Staff Feature: Meet Our Client Services Shift Lead

| People & Culture

Antonio

Meet Antonio, our enthusiastic and customer-obsessed Client Services Shift Lead!  Most days you can find Antonio leading the Client Services team with his counterpart Chris Lim (pictured above), ensuring that we are making positive and lasting impressions with both our members and guests. He also works closely with the Member Care Program Manager to provide mentorship and training to new and existing staff. As a part of the Member Care team, Antonio has a strong knowledge of the Oval’s facility layout, programs, facility bookings, public and special events schedules.

Antonio has been working in customer service since he was 15 years old. His journey in customer service began at Silver City, then to Starbucks, and most recently the Richmond Olympic Oval. Antonio started out as an auxiliary part-time Client Services Representative and was promoted last year into the full-time Client Services Shift Lead role. For Antonio, the best thing about working at the Oval is his team and management. He speaks favorably of their positive energy, friendly (and fun!) demeanor and supportive nature.

A typical day in the life of Antonio at the Oval begins with checking work emails, and then putting together a variety of training documents to ensure his team is all on the same page. While working through these tasks, Antonio simultaneously interacts with members and guests entering and exiting the facility. The wide demographic that Antonio serves daily allows him to interact with a variety of awesome people with a variety of needs. Every day is a new adventure. He’s also seen his relationships evolve over time with the Oval’s regulars – two regulars in particular, Pat and Amit, who he used to volunteer with at the Richmond Food Bank.

The Oval has allowed Antonio to strengthen his organization, leadership and time management skills, which will build his confidence for the future.  Antonio has always been passionate about the environment. His dream is to become a lawyer specializing in environmental law or, as an alternative to law, working in the criminal justice system.

Outside of work, Antonio enjoys playing hockey at the Oval and going on adventurous hikes with his girlfriend, Madison, and their two pugs. During the winter months, when Vancouver weather is a little less forgiving, he’s been known to spend a fair share of hours playing video games (who doesn’t love a good video game!).
