Meet Lica Stroud!

What brought you to the Oval? What made you choose the Oval?

I was at the Terra Nova location for Yyoga, but the Oval offered hot yoga which was when I started coming to the Oval location. My usual Yyoga pass was put on hold due to a tendinitis injury and I needed some sort of exercise as well. When we asked about prices at the Oval, I got a great deal for a yearly membership with my combined Yyoga yearly pass. The free kids’ memberships were a great incentive too & my husband got a annual membership as well.

What are your favourite activities here and why?

Metabolic mash-up with Nicole is such a great workout. Thursday & Sunday drop-in climbing is amazing in that the kids can be dropped off and the parents can get a workout in and watch them climb from the gym upstairs; I also enjoy the sauna within Yyoga.

m3How do your children use their memberships?

My kids started climbing last September when we first got their membership and it’s great that it includes the wall; normally it would be expensive to climb anywhere else; it is rare to find a facility that offers rock climbing indoors without paying a separate price. The kids come Thursday & Sundays for climbing and its the first time in years that my husband and I have been able to work out together, thank you, thank you, thank you! We recently found out that on Tuesday nights from 8pm – 10pm there is drop-in batting cages that we can RSVP a time slot for 15 minutes…so awesome!

How do you find the Oval different from others? What makes us unique?

I have the choice of doing cardio classes, yoga or both. I’ve tried spin class and that was not easy but I enjoy the variety of drop-in classes which is amazing. I spend the whole morning at the Oval using the elliptical and weights or at Yyoga using their infrared sauna after my yoga session.

How has the Oval supported you in your fitness journey?

The variety in equipment and classes keeps it exciting; I’m never bored. The cardio equipment is amazing and has increased my cardio and shredded some fat. The Oval has kept me coming back and enjoying my work outs.

Do you do any Oval activities together as a couple?

Yes! We work out at the gym while the kids are climbing and being able to supervise from above time to time (I think that was the best idea ever!) and know they are in good hands with the staff.

What are some activities that you would like to try at the Oval?

Pilates, drop-in volleyball when the kids are older.

What do you enjoy the most in life?

Yoga, spending time with my family and being active! The Oval combines all of my loves!

How else do you stay active outside of the Oval? Did you plan any exciting summer outings this year?

I enjoy swimming outdoors, rollerblading in Stanley Park, biking along the Railway path, camping at Alice Lake which is our favourite area & being at the park with my family. My summer outing this year included a trip to Hawaii & swimming with the dolphins.

Is there anything that you would like to see the Oval to improve?

We don’t have issues finding parking as the rows labeled “A&B” for members does help, when it comes to events during the weekends. A new swimming pool would make the Oval complete, but other than that we’re all pretty happy with the Oval.
