Meet Donna Hand!

What brought you to the Oval? What made you choose the Oval?

I joined the Oval back in 2012 for the state of the art facility and equipment offered here. I found out the Oval was having a YYoga studio in the facility & I started doing yoga a year ago and I enjoy it very much.

What are your favourite activities here and why?

I love going to YYoga and Krista’s Tuesday and Thursday fitness classes.  I love the ability to choose from a different variety of activities.  I love the balance between yoga and the cardio classes upstairs.  Krista is an amazing instructor and there is a reason why all of her classes fill up so quickly.  Her punch and crunch class is my favourite.

donna3How do you find the Oval different from others? What makes us unique?

The Oval offers the most variety in classes.  Also, the Oval has amazing childminding.  When my kids were younger, we would attend 3-4 times a week; they couldn’t wait to go to childminding.  They loved all the toys, drawing and colouring.  Catherine is the best and so good with all of the kids.

Do you find it beneficial to work out together?

Unfortunately, our schedules do not allow us to work out together but we enjoy different activities. My husband Matt, loves playing basketball or going on the 3rd floor to work out; I prefer the fitness classes and YYoga.

How has the Oval supported you in your fitness journey?

The Oval has some amazing staff members.  Arnie, Danica, Edward, Denise, Antonio, and Michael are among many of the front desk members who are always friendly and remember your name.  They make you feel welcome and special.  Portia is another standout staff member.  I love when she subs in on fitness classes because she is a fantastic instructor.  Also, I recently had some trouble with my membership and she helped me right away and followed up. The fitness challenges are always fun as well as the member appreciation days.

donna2What are some activities that you would like to try at the Oval?

I have always wanted to try a “boot camp” style class. Cross fit over the past years has become quite popular so that would be something different for a fitness class.

What do you enjoy the most in life?

I enjoy spending time with my family, bike riding around the neighbourhood & camping at Alice Lake.

Is there anything that you would like to see the Oval to improve?

It would be nice if the TRX and VIPR classes didn’t incur an additional cost.  I am paying a lot of money for my membership to the Oval and YYoga.  I would love to do TRX, but I just cannot afford to pay more money for classes.
