Meet Carol & Tim Sargeant!
What brought you to the Oval? What made you choose the Oval?
We first came to the Oval because we were intrigued by the idea of actually skating on an Olympic Oval. Following the Olympics and soon after the conversion of the facility, Tim became a member to take advantage of the hockey rink activities and the fitness centre. Carol was becoming a little disgruntled with her fitness facility and it soon thereafter closed. Tim was very happy with his Oval experiences, so Carol decided to join.
What are your favourite activities here and why?
Tim: Skating, stick and puck and gym time. I haven’t dropped in for stick & puck in a while but I usually use the Elliptical, Hoist Circuit, free weights & of course stretching in the fitness centre.
Carol: Yoga (Usually Hatha & stretch and release), gym and skating.
How do you find the Oval different from others? What makes us unique?
Cleanliness, layout of the fitness area. Multitude of possible activities all under one roof. Open design, the ability to see lots of different activities while working out, such as watching hockey or figure skating while on the elliptical equipment.
Do you find it beneficial to work out together with a friend or family member?
Although we don’t follow the same workout routine, we do find that working out at the same time means that we’re on the same family schedule.
How has the Oval supported you in your fitness journey?
Tim: The fitness staff are always helpful; Ryan, Lynn & Pat are just to name a few.
Carol: Working one on one with a fitness trainer has been helpful; Rhonda built a routine for me and has helped developed me slowly to where I need to be.
What are some activities that you would like to try at the Oval?
Tim: Climbing Wall and Yoga. My son comes to work out time to time and I would like to bring him in to do some climbing one day.
Carol: The Richmond Olympic Experience (ROX) sounds like fun.
What do you enjoy the most in life?
Travel, weekend getaways (Victoria, Washington D.C., Okanagan) and attending local festivities/sites together. We used to do a lot more camping back in the day, Lake Louise was one of the spots to camp but we just enjoy daily walks, dining out & exploring new places.
Being long time Members, is there anything that you would like to see the Oval improve or have improved on?
We would like to see more ice schedule and public skates. We don’t usually have any parking issues in the early morning, however we would suggest having decals for Members to place in their vehicles. Overall, the Oval has continuously improved since we’ve been Members.
