Dalton Boon (20) competed in the 2015 CanAm Para Swimming Championships held at Toronto’s new Pan Am Sports Centre on Mar 21-22 2015.
Dalton Boon of the Winskill Dolphins Swim Club entered the meet as Canada’s No.1 seeded swimmer in 200m Freestyle and successfully defended his title, winning gold in a time of 2 minutes 5.04 seconds, and earning himself a birth on Team Canada’s Pan Am squad! This marked Boon’s third appearance on the National team, having previously appeared on the team for Para Pan Pac Championships last year and Para Pan Am’s in 2011. Boon also posted personal best times in 200m Individual Medley, 100m Breaststroke, and 100m Backstroke.
Coach Amy Canuel chalks Boon’s achievement up to grit. “Progress is not a straight-line and you must to be willing to manage the bumps in the road,” said Canuel. “Dalton’s persistence and commitment paid off and he performed his best when it counted the most! A great moment for him and a great stepping-stone towards Rio 2016.”
Boon was nominated in the first round of swimmers selected, along with 39 other athletes, who will represent Canada on the Para PanAm Games team. Canada is expected to 220 athletes to the Games. “The chance to participate in a major Games when it’s at home in Canada is something every athlete dreams of,” said Canuel. WDSC Coach Amy Canuel was also selected as a lead coach for this tour!
Outside of the swimming pool, Dalton Boon attends weekly strength and conditioning session with OvalHP Coach Cody Low in our dedicated High Performance Training Centre. OvalHP will be cheering on Dalton in the upcoming Toronto Pan Am Games in July 2015.
