Meet Khalid Din!
What brought you to the Oval? What made you choose the Oval?
The fact that it is an iconic beautiful building that hosted the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and it is a one stop gym for all types of physical fitness that an individual would desire. The Oval has such a joyful beautiful ambiance inside, along with this every time I exercise at the Oval I am taken away by the intricacies of the construction, mainly the beautiful hand crafted wood ceiling throughout.
What are your favourite activities here and why?
I absolutely enjoy the fitness center on the third floor, especially the hoist circuit right at the beginning of the facility; it’s a great way to get a pre-workout going before doing anything else. Not a lot of members use these machines but it’s great for resistance training with different levels of intensity for any person. I also enjoy the basketball courts, the ice rinks and the badminton. Having a variety of the noted activities keeps me mentally and physically stimulated and also allows me to have various options of activities.
How do you find the Oval different from others? What makes us unique?
Simply, the size of the Oval and freedom and vast space is like no other of any fitness facility that I have been at in the lower mainland. Simple fact the Oval is such a tourist site for people around the world and also the fact that it was a big part of the 2010 Olympics. Having said that, the uniqueness is definitely the vast arrange of activities one could do at the Oval.
Do you find it beneficial to work out with someone?
Although I work out on my own, occasionally I do work out with a friend, I must say that it is beneficial as it gives one the opportunity to push themselves beyond what one is capable of doing; i.e. encouragement, moral support, etc.
I have been an Oval member for over the past three years, I find the staff are very friendly and helpful when need be. The facility is very well maintained and the equipment is top notch. Positive staff and a well maintained facility are the main reason why I have stayed at the Oval for many years; I look forward to keeping my fitness journey with the Oval.
What are some activities that you would like to try at the Oval?
I would like to try rock climbing and also the ROX museum; there are a vast number of classes that are offered in my membership also that I would be interested in trying eventually.
What do you enjoy the most in life?
I enjoy having positive people in my life, working on vintage cars, anything outdoors from hiking, rollerblading to camping. I’ve also travelled to various parts around the world- Japan, Pakistan, Scotland, Qatar, Morocco, Dubai just to name a few and definitely having my two pets (rabbit & dog).
Is there anything that you would like to see the Oval to improve?
Not one to complain and I am fortunate and happy to be a part of the Oval experience.
